Toyota is a leader in automotive safety, and your Toyota has a range of safety features that actively work to keep you safe. Depending on your model, some features may be installed already, and others may be available. Your car manual lists and explains each of these features. As your Toyota dealer, we want to tell you about some of the Toyota safety features you can expect to find in your Toyota.

Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection

This system uses a forward-looking camera and radar to identify potential collision risks in front of you. If it identifies a vehicle or pedestrian in front of your vehicle, it uses your speed and the detected object’s speed to determine the possibility of a collision. The system will sound an audible alarm to warn of an impending collision so you can intervene.

If you cannot respond fast enough, the system will automatically apply hard braking to prevent or reduce the effects of a collision.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Cruise control has been a feature of vehicles for decades, but this Toyota system takes it to the next level. You can program the speed you want and the accepted distance between your vehicle and any vehicle in front of you. This cruise control will maintain your desired speed and distance parameters and adjust them as necessary depending on any changes detected by radar.

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist

This feature automatically activates when you exceed 30 mph, and it identifies the white and yellow lines on the road. If your wheels unintentionally cross the line separating the lanes, the system will sound an alarm and also display a warning on your screen. If you don’t turn back into your lane, your steering will gently guide you back into your lane.

Lane Tracing Assist

This system shares some features with the system above. It actively works to ensure that your vehicle is always centered within its lane, and it will warn if your vehicle starts to deviate from its path. If you don’t respond when your vehicle drifts in one direction, it can activate emergency braking to bring your vehicle to a stop.

Automatic High Beams

High beams are effective at lighting up the area in front of you at night. They can have a blinding effect on the drivers of other vehicles heading toward you, and switching to low beams to prevent this can distract you from the road ahead. This system automatically switches to low beams if it detects lights heading toward your Toyota. Once the lights have disappeared, the system switches back to high beams again.
